Feel held, heard and supported — not rushed through your pregnancy journey.
Acuneedling with Lauretta is a warm, grounded, and evidence-informed experience designed to support your body and nervous system in pre-conception, pregnancy, birth preparation, and postpartum recovery. As a registered midwife with specialist training in Acuneedling, I work with women seeking holistic, complementary care alongside their standard maternity support.
What is Acuneedling?
Acuneedling is a gentle and traditional practice based on Chinese Medicine that uses fine needles, acupressure, and moxibustion to stimulate specific points on the body.
These points align with the body’s meridian channels — supporting hormones, energy, pain relief, and overall wellbeing.
Using fine needles, I combine specific points on the body tailored to your individual symptoms and needs.
The needles are then left in or stimuluated and you are able to relax and enjoy the time to lie down, supported but comfy pillows and rest.
How Acuneedling Can Support You
Every session is designed to meet you where you are — physically, emotionally.
Common reasons people book include:
Pregnancy symptoms (nausea, vomiting, heartburn, reflux, pelvic pain, tension)
- Birth preparation (bodywork, cervical ripening, baby positioning, relaxation)
- Breech or transverse presentations
- Relaxation or nervous system support
- Postpartum healing and scar support
- Continuity of care and a safe place to be held
What to Expect
Your session begins with a detailed intake and check-in so I can understand what’s happening for you. We’ll work with specific acupoints, and your session may include acupressure, bodywork, moxibustion, or simply a chance to rest and be nurtured.
You’ll lie back with cosy cushions, and once the needles are in, you’ll rest for 15–20 minutes while they do their work.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes — Acuneedling, when provided by a qualified practitioner like a trained midwife, is a gentle and supportive modality. We avoid high-risk points and work within the scope for each pregnancy stage – there are certain points such as cervical ripening points I don’t use until 37 weeks of pregnancy, but you can see me at anytime during your pregnancy.
-
Acuneedling uses Traditional Chinese Medicine principles. As a midwife, I am trained specifically within the scope of preconception, pregnancy and postpartum. Dry needling typically involves the use of longer needles to target specific muscles or muscle groups, whereas Acuneedling is based on Traditional chinese medicine, while we can use specific point combinations for muscles, ligaments and pain - it involves the whole body rather than specific areas, and smaller needles.
-
Most people barely feel the needles going in, but some will describe it as a pinch or bruisey sensation – once they're in and doing their thing the sensations should settle so you can fully relax – I always check in and make sure you’re ok as we go as well as going slowly if you’re nervous! Most people find the sessions incredibly relaxing — some even nap once needles are in.
-
Acuneedling has an accumulative effect. We’ll tailor a plan based on your needs. Some symptoms improve after a few sessions closer together and then moving to maintenance where we space the appointments out. Acuneedling for Birth preparation is recommended weekly from 37weeks.

No — this is complementary support. It works alongside your OB, midwife or GP care.

Not currently. But my Packages offer value if you're seeking ongoing support.

We can use acupressure or moxa instead — you’re in control of your session.

Yes — partners and babies are welcome. For safety, babies must be in a pram or held securely (e.g. on your chest or in a carrier). I'm happy to work around feeding or cuddling during the session.
