Pregnancy Bodywork
For pregnancy discomfort, birth preparation & postpartum
Pelvic pain. Aching hips. A sore back. Feeling tight, heavy or just really uncomfortable. These things might be common in pregnancy, but that doesn't mean the answer should be “you're pregnant, that’s just part of it”.
Pain and discomfort give us useful information. There's often so much we can do to support your body through pregnancy.
Pregnancy Bodywork is a gentle, light-touch approach using fascial and soft-tissue techniques around the pelvis and surrounding areas. Rather than deep massage or forceful stretching, we work slowly with the tissues, exploring areas of tension, movement and comfort.
Your session is tailored to you, and I'll share practical home-care tips you can use during pregnancy and labour.
Come and see me for:
Pregnancy aches + pains
Pelvic, hip + back discomfort
Movement, positioning + body awareness
Birth preparation
Postpartum bodywork
Pelvic tension + discomfort beyond pregnancy
Coming in for birth preparation?
Pregnancy Bodywork is a great place to start. If you're interested in Internal Pelvic Release Work as part of your birth preparation, appointments are generally available from 34 weeks, following an individual assessment of suitability.
Internal Pelvic
Release Work
Pelvic care for pain, birth preparation, connection & life before or beyond babies
Your pelvis is about so much more than your pelvic floor.
Women come to me for IPRW for all sorts of reasons — pelvic pain or tension, preparing for birth, returning to their body postpartum, or simply wanting to better understand + connect with their pelvic space.
IPRW may be part of your care for:
Pelvic pain + tension
Birth preparation
Pelvic connection + awareness
Postpartum care
Pelvic care beyond pregnancy
Your initial appointment gives us plenty of time to talk about what's brought you in, followed by external bodywork + gentle internal pelvic care.
Unlike a clinical vaginal examination, we aren't assessing your cervix or diagnosing a pelvic health condition. This is hands-on pelvic bodywork, with the time + space to explore what you're feeling in your body.
Internal vaginal work is always optional. We'll discuss the proposed techniques, potential risks and alternatives beforehand, and treatment only proceeds with your explicit, ongoing consent. You're welcome to request external-only bodywork or stop at any time. It doesn't replace your usual maternity, medical or pelvic health care.

When should I book Pregnancy Bodywork?
For pregnancy aches, pains and discomfort
You don't need to wait until the end of pregnancy to book! If you're experiencing pelvic discomfort, aching hips, back pain or feeling tight and uncomfortable, you're welcome to book at any stage of pregnancy.
We'll chat about what's happening for you, explore suitable bodywork techniques and discuss whether a follow-up appointment might be helpful.
Some women choose to book two appointments around 1–2 weeks apart initially, with any further sessions guided by their individual needs and preferences.
For general birth preparation
If you're interested in incorporating Pregnancy Bodywork into your birth preparation, these are my suggested booking windows:
First appointment: 34–36 weeks
Optional follow-up: 36–37 weeks
These appointments offer time for external bodywork, movement, body awareness and individualised care as you approach birth.
Preparing for a VBAC?
If you're preparing for a vaginal birth after Caesarean, I generally suggest starting a little earlier so we have time to explore your scar, external pelvic bodywork and any areas of discomfort.
An example appointment plan might look like:
Session 1 (30–32 weeks): Initial Pregnancy Bodywork, including scar care where appropriate.
Session 2 (from around 32 weeks): Optional Internal Pelvic Release Work, following an individual assessment of suitability.
Session 3 (36–37 weeks): Optional follow-up Pregnancy Bodywork or Internal Pelvic Release Work, depending on your preferences and circumstances.
Internal Pelvic Release Work involves internal vaginal techniques and is entirely optional. It isn't a requirement for VBAC preparation.
From 37 weeks
You may also like to explore Acuneedling™ or further Pregnancy Bodywork in the final weeks of pregnancy. Head to my Acuneedling™ page to learn more.
These are suggested appointment windows, not a set treatment schedule. Every pregnancy is different, and we'll chat about what's appropriate for you. While bodywork can be part of your personal birth preparation, specific changes in symptoms, baby's position or birth outcomes can't be promised.

When can I book Internal Pelvic Release Work?
During pregnancy
For birth preparation, I generally offer initial Internal Pelvic Release Work appointments from 33–34 weeks, with an optional follow-up around 3–4 weeks later.
Every pregnancy is different, so we'll discuss your health history and individual circumstances to determine whether internal treatment is appropriate for you.
Postpartum
Appointments are available from 12 weeks after birth, provided you've recovered sufficiently, any wounds have healed and there are no infections or other concerns that would make internal treatment unsuitable.
Not pregnant or postpartum
You're welcome to book at any stage. We'll discuss your health history and any relevant concerns to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you.
-
Internal Pelvic Release Work or Bodywork can generally be considered from around 8 weeks postpartum, provided any perineal wounds have fully healed + you feel comfortable and ready.
There's no rush.
-
No. My work is bodywork rather than diagnosis or rehabilitation of pelvic health conditions.
Pelvic health physiotherapists have a different scope + approach, and there are times when their assessment or treatment may be more appropriate.
If something comes up that's outside my scope or would benefit from further assessment, I'll refer you on.
-
No.

Not currently.

What should I know before booking Internal Pelvic Release Work?
IPRW is a hands-on bodywork approach involving gentle internal vaginal techniques, sometimes combined with external pelvic bodywork.
Research specifically evaluating IPRW, particularly during pregnancy, is limited, so its effectiveness and safety for particular pelvic health or birth outcomes haven't been established.
Before treatment, we'll chat about your health history, the proposed techniques, potential risks and alternatives, and whether this approach is appropriate for you.
Internal vaginal work is always optional, and you're welcome to ask questions, request external-only bodywork or stop treatment at any time.
Still not sure where to start?
If you're looking for pregnancy or pelvic bodywork but you're not sure exactly what you need, book Pregnancy + Bodywork — Initial. That's the best place for us to start.
If you already know you'd like to explore Internal Pelvic Release Work, you can book an IPRW Initial appointment directly.
